Kouses is a small mountain village located on the fruitful Messara plain. Its position is at an altitude of 130m. at the northern foothills of the Pyrgos hill of Asterousia. From there the view is panoramic to the plain of Messara. Traditional stone house and narrow streets created a picturesque villagescape. In the centre of Kouses is probably the most famous herb shop in Crete. Kafenion is a typical, traditional Greek coffee house. Very close to the village is the archeoligical site of Phaistos and the famous beaches Matala and Kommos.
